The Curse in Action

Quote

"But simple as the tale is there is hardly better historic training for a man than to set him frankly in the streets of a quiet little town like Bury St. Edmunds, and bid him work out the history of the men who lived and died there. In the quiet, quaintly-named streets, in the town-mead and the market-place, in the Lord’s mill beside the stream, in the ruffed and future brasses of its burghers in the church, lies the real life of England and Englishmen, this life of their home and their trade, their ceaseless, sober struggle with oppression, their steady, unwearied battle for self-government. It is just in the pettiness of its details, in its common place incidents, in the want of marked features and striking events, that the real lesson of the whole story lies. For two centuries this little town of Bury St. Edmunds was winning Liberty to itself, and yet we hardly note as we pass from one little step to another little step how surely that Liberty was being won."

John Richard Green (1837-1883), grandfather of British social and cultural history.

The Curse of Saint Edmund

GOTCHA!

ONE YEAR OF THE CURSE - ITS EFFECTS AND FALL-OUT

TOP TEN HITS

Since the invocation of the curse of the Blessed Saint and Martyr Edmund, King of East Anglia last year against Debenhams, Centros Miller, the Miller Group and all those aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring their actions, the following events have been observed:
  1. John Prescott - the minister who approved the scheme has fallen from office into disgrace and infamy.
  2. 10 chalk pits, some "the size of houses" have been found under the Cattle Market construction site in Bury St Edmunds.
  3. The risk of anthrax contamination was identified at a Debenhams' development site in Carmarthen.
  4. Debenhams plc is dying as a company - both locally and nationally and HMV - the first company to declare it would open in the Cattle Market site suffered a massive collapse of profits over the Christmas period 2005-2006 forcing the resignation of its Chief Executive.
  5. The escalating cost of the proposed public building on the Cattle Market site has required a bung from the East of England Assembly to meet the growing shortfall.
  6. It has been discovered that the proposed Cattle Market building will only have an anticipated life of 20-30 years as a result of inadequate construction materials, whereas Centros Miller - for the moment - hold a lease on the site for 150 years.
  7. The people of Lancaster have heroically risen against the common enemy Centros Miller, which plans to blight and ruin their city, are even now battling the invaders.
  8. The Edinburgh based conspiracy against English market towns between Johnston Press, the Miller group and Scottish New Labour Party has been exposed.
  9. The English Historic Towns Forum has been exposed as a front organisation for developers - setting up meetings where they can rub shoulders with councilors and council officers outside democratic scrutiny.
  10. Centros Miller's Director John Laker is suffering the worm of conscience - and now inquiries - over his declaration that the policy of his company is acquire "champions" among both councilors and officials on local councils.

COLLATERAL DAMAGE SUFFERED BY ST EDMUNDSBURY COUNCIL ("The Iscariot's Council")

On-Going Scandals Concerning:

St Edmund's Day 20th November 2006

This St Edmund's day the Knights have organised a private celebration and annual general meeting for November 20th, rather than organise another ceremonial. Due to the events of the last year we decided we needed to reorganise and refocus the campaign with Operation Heretic, which has just been launched and will shortly be bearing fruit - watch press for details. However, the Knight's wish to assure everyone, especially St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Centros Miller, the Miller Group and Debenhams that if they think we were effective over the last year, you ain't seen nothing yet! Those who ignore the past have no future!

Finally Many Thanks To All Our Many Friends

The Knights of St Edmund would like to thank all the many people and clergy who have helped the Knights over the last year. We would especially like to thank X, V & W for all their hard work, the numerous anonymous Borough and County Council employees who put loyalty to their town before loyalty to their employers and the citizenry of Bury who have passed on information they have gleaned. To all our many supporters in Suffolk, the UK and beyond, thank you one and all, without your help we would not be able to achieve half of what we have been able to in the last year. With your continuing support along with the aid of the good Lord and of course St Edmund our King, Saint and Holy Martyr victory can still be achieved.
